Top Western Island dances (male)

Tagai State College Western Island Dance. Senior school students.

The Top Western Island male dance team performed The Warrior Dance. This dance was composed by Mr Fred Anau. His totem is the Yam Leaf (in KKY language, ‘daebow’) and his clan is Magi Buyi. This Dance is about the famous warrior at Boigu Island named, Garuge. It tells the story of Pinu’s Peace Mission where Garuge and other head warriors of Boigu Island, went with the deacon, Pinu, to make peace with the Papua New Guinean people. The dance shows the fight that ensued between the Papua New Guinean warrior and the Boigu Island warriers, led by Garuge. After their fight though, peace was restored between Papua New Guinean people and Boigu Islanders.
